We run a small, specialist plant nursery in Caunes-Minervois, in the Languedoc, France.

A large demonstration garden supports the work of the nursery. We are listed by the Association des parcs et jardins du Languedoc-Roussillon and are also an LPO refuge (League pour la protection des oiseaux).

Visitors are very welcome to come and enjoy the garden and bring a picnic.

Activities at the nursery include:

Self-guided visits.

Events and Open Days

We also offer an advisory, design and planting service to establish or develop your garden:

One-off visits

Small or large garden schemes

Project management of garden work

Talks to groups or societies (in English or French) on certain garden related topics are also available.

The nursery is run by Gill Pound who has been collecting plants since the age of 9 and, with nearly a thousand species in the garden, hasn't lost that enthusiasm for discovering and growing new plants.  Gill is a member of the Section Horticole of the Amicale laïque of Carcassonne, a member of the international Mediterranean Gardening Society, and horticultural advisor on the committee of Mediterranean Gardening France. Look out for Gill's gardening articles published in Languedoc Living, Living in France, the LFN Digestive and the Aude & Ariege Flyer

"Gill has been involved with our garden from it's conception and initial design through to the ongoing stages of it's development.  We have sought her invaluable advice on planting schemes that suit the conditions of the Minervois, for her recommendations for architectural shrubs and the more unusual varieties of plants in which she specialises, and on many day to day gardening issues.  Gill is a superlative gardener - her down to earth approach, creative flair, excellent plant knowledge as well as the high quality of her own plants keeps us coming back year after year.  Time and time again she has just the right tip or piece of advice.  Witout her we would quite simply have been lost." - GW/DC, Rieux-Minervois

I have attended courses at La Petite Pepiniere which have been really helpful with lots of tips about gardening in what is a very different way to the South of England.   The range of plants grown is fantastic - always in good sturdy pots, excellent health - the problem is that every time I go there I get really carried away.  The selection of salvias is wonderful and my garden, still being established, has benefitted enormously from the plants I have bought here.  Gill is always so generous with her time and knowledge and contacts.  Her advice is invaluable - even when I don't want to hear that I can't grow a particular plant in my soil, aspect and climate!   I cannot recommend the nursery highly enough.  There are always interesting and entertaining people at open days, whether in the Spring or near Christmas - make it your one stop gardening shop - I guarantee you won't be disappointed - I'm an extremely satisfied customer!  MF, Durban-Corbieres

“ We have been visiting la petite pepiniere for some years now. We come back for the excellent quality of the plants, the friendly helpful service and the beautiful display garden . After costly failures with plants imported from  the UK, we now have a flourishing garden for all seasons thanks to Gill. Her excellent workshops and one to one consultations are worth every penny and cannot be recommended too highly.”  FS  St Frichoux
I’ve been visiting La Petite Pépinière for several years now and every time I go I find new plants in the nursery, changes in the borders and fresh ideas for my own garden. Gill is incredibly knowledgeable about gardening in dry climates, water-wise gardening and the specific problems of gardening in the Languedoc.  She is always prepared to spend time discussing projects and recommending plants, many of which are indigenous to the area and guaranteed to do well!  I’ve also found that simply looking around the garden is an inspiration throughout the year.  It allows me to find out the shape and size of mature plants, when they flower and how to maintain them – and there is always something new that I can’t resist buying for myself! MC Molieres

“ I found the 'Introduction to Gardening in Summer Dry Climates' course invaluable and with other courses that Gill runs at La Petite Pepiniere and her ongoing help and advice I have got so much pleasure from gardening in this region”.  CD, Vilar St Anselme
My first visit, several years ago, was to attend a workshop on taking cuttings and I’ve subsequently attended a number of Gill’s talks, sometimes at the nursery but also at places like the English Gardening School in London. Her talks are always inspirational, particularly for encouraging one to try out unusual plants. Many of the plants she recommends can be viewed in the garden at La Petite Pépinière, and this is one of the reasons I visit regularly. An attractive plant photo illustrating a talk is one thing, but seeing mature specimens of interesting plants growing in the garden is even better.CS. Malaucène
La Petite Pépinière de Caunes is a magical place. Apat from the spectacular setting it is full of beautiful areas where you can see beds of Mediterranean plantings. There are ornamental grasses, trees, shrubs, architectural plants … everything you might want to consider growing if you live in the south of France. The real magic of La Petite Pépinière , however, is Gill Pound herself. Her knowledge of planting in this area is astounding and she has an urgent desire to share it with anyone who visits the garden, either to buy plants, just to look around, or to learn from her on one of her courses.Gill has helped us start to tame a very difficult Caunes garden and has provided information as well as plants which have transformed some very rocky parts of our harden. Gill has also given us the confidence to leave some areas .. to see what happens, and to develop our garden around what happens in it naturally.I can’t speak highly enough about her knowledge and skills at imparting that knowledge. La Petite Pépinière’s beauty has developed through Gill’s passion for what she does, and I would recommend anyone to visit the garden and talk with Gill. You will immediately hooked forever on the incredible possibilities of planting in a Mediterranean climate. JW, Caunes-Minervois

Having had a new house built in the Corbieres, we wanted to establish a garden in keeping with the surroundings. We had no previous practical experience of Mediterranean gardens. Gill Pound at La Petite Pépinière was able to provide her extensive knowledge of the region to advise us on suitable planting and irrigation. The plants and stock from La Petite Pépinière are healthy, successful and reasonably priced, while Gill is always willing to answer any technical questions. Without a doubt we could not have achieved the results in our much-admired garden without La Petite Pépinière.   CS, Ferrals les Corbieres
